Getafe up to fifth after crushing Leganes

Getafe have moved into fifth place in Spain's La Liga thanks to a 3-0 win away to local rivals Leganes on Friday (Saturday AEDT).

Leandro Cabrera powered in a header to make it 1-0 on 12 minutes and Allan Nyom doubled the lead on 21 minutes by nodding in Marc Cucurella's cross.

Leganes went close when Guido Carillo had a header tipped over by David Soria.

Instead, Getafe got their third when Jaime Mata scored from a pass from Jorge Molina.

"This is a great result for us after three straight defeats," said goalscorer Mata.

Leganes' midfielder Ruben Perez said: "We apologise to the fans for the performance. There is still a long way to go and we have to keep fighting."

Javier Aguirre's side remain in the bottom three and complete a miserable week when they also saw star striker Youssef En-Nesyri sold to Sevilla.
