De Randamie a controversial new champ

Germaine de Randamie has become the first ever women's featherweight champion after beating Holly Holm at UFC 208 but the bout was not without its fair share of controversy.

De Randamie escaped punishment from referee Todd Anderson on two separate occasions after clearly throwing punches after the siren had sounded.

The incidents happened at the end of the second and third rounds, and commentator Joe Rugan was clearly exasperated after the second late hit and called for a point to be deducted.

The fact the match went down to the wire, and de Randamie only squeaked home by a point on all three judge's cards, placed both incidents under even further scrutiny.

She apologised for her actions immediately after the match.

"It wasn't meant for me to hit her after the bell,'' a remorseful de Randamie said.

"It was a heated moment. I apologise. I'm not like that."
