Game of Thrones star lifts 450kg

He’s one of the hard men of the hit TV series Game of Thrones and it seems Icelandic strongman Hafþór Július 'Thor' Björnsson lives up to the image away from the screen.

Extraordinary video has emerged of the muscle-bound actor competing in a weightlifting competition in which he successfully deadlifts 450kg.

The clip shows Björnsson walking to a bar loaded with six truck tyres, prepare the weights, attach strapping to the bar, before settling both hands into their proper grip positions.

The 25-year-old takes a moment to settle, checks the cameraman is ready and then successfully lifts the weight off the floor before dropping it and celebrating with two fist pumps.

Björnsson, a former professional basketball player, took over the role of The Mountain in the latest season of Game of Thrones.
