Here’s what happens when you mess with nature.

A French sailor was rescued at sea after colliding with a whale while competing in some boat race named the Vendee Globe.

The 55-year-old skipper of Bastido Otio, Kito de Pavant, suffered damage to his keel in the South Indian Ocean and was successfully recovered from his stricken yacht.

The Frenchman was philosophical about the situation

‘The smash broke the aft part of the keel and hull around it and the aft keel mountings were ripped off too’ said de Pavant.

“I was lucky with my bad luck. The Marion Dufresne was in the area and that only happens four times a year’.

‘I was no longer able to get rid of the water. The boards were floating. It was hard leaving my boat and abandoning her in the middle of nowhere, and it’s really upsetting losing my boat.
