Fox wins fifth Canoe World Cup gold medal

Australia's Jessica Fox has added a fifth Canoe Slalom World Cup gold medal to her trophy cabinet after smashing the field in Germany.

Fox finished a whopping six seconds ahead of her closest rival, Great Britain's Mallory Franklin, in posting a time of 1 minute 02.10 seconds in the K1 final in Augsburg on Saturday.

"It was great, I really attacked it and I improved on my semi-final where I wanted to," Fox said.

"I thought after my s-gate at the finish I thought I had a 105, but to see a 1.02 I'm just blown away, I am so happy.

"I can't believe it, it's been an incredible start to the season. I know last year Ricarda (Funk) won three gold medals and I was three times second, so to get up on that stop this time is wonderful."

Slovenia's Eva Tercelj took the bronze in third.

Australian Rosalyn Lawrence also made the K1 final, her first of the season, but picked up a 50-second penalty for a missed gate and had to settle for 10th place, while Tasmanian Kate Eckhardt finished 15th after bowing out the semi-finals.

In the men's C1 semi-final, Australians Ian Borrows and Daniel Watkins finished 20th and 28th respectively.

New South Welshmen Lucien Delfour and Tim Anderson are still in the running for the men's K1 semi-finals on Sunday.
