World Cup: Denmark fined for sexist banner and unruly behaviour towards Socceroos fans in Samara

Following Denmark's 1-1 draw with the Socceroos at the World Cup on Thursday, the Danish Football Association has copped a hefty fine for the unsavoury behaviour of their fans.

FIFA fined the Dansk Boldspel-Union $27,000 (AUD) and issued a warning for "crowd disturbance" and Danish fans displaying a sexist banner during the match at Samara.

A banner in the stadium read "STORE PATTER" which in English translates to "big t--s". FIFA also claimed that Danish supporters threw objects at Socceroos fans, a breach of "pre-match protocol".

Reports from AP believe the object-throwing occurred during the national anthems, with FIFA able to identify culprits using surveillance cameras in the stadium.

Denmark are in second place in Group C with Australia in third.

The Socceroos need a win against Peru, and for France to inflict a comfortable win against Denmark in the final group matches in order for the Aussies to progress to the round of 16.

The matches will take place simultaneously on Tuesday night (Wednesday 12am AEST).
