'Whoosh': Striker Chris Wondolowski misses sitter for San Jose Earthquakes

Chris Wondolowski mightn't live to rue this day, but it will certainly be one that he'll keep well away from the pool room.

The San Jose Earthquakes striker left everyone, including the crowd, the goal, his teammates and even the ball, hanging as he made a spectacular hash of this 'shot' on goal against the New England Revolution.

Sadly for Wondolowski, he really did let his team down with this amazing effort of not making contact with the ball, as the game finished in a 0-0 draw. San Jose are currently fifth on the ladder, and with things tight at the top they could have used the two points.

We'll leave it to you to work out whether this one was worse than Miles Storey's botched effort in the Scottish Premier League two weeks ago.

In further bad news for the striker, it brought up more unhappy memories from US soccer fans, who linked it to his infamous 2014 effort at the FIFA World Cup, where he blasted a shot over the crossbar that would have sealed the United States a win over the highly-fancied Belgian side.

We're hoping he doesn't beat himself up too much about it though. Misses happen. It's just unfortunate for Wondolowski that it's happened to him twice on the professional stage.
