Weinzierl talks of Schalke challenge
Augsburg coach Markus Weinzierl has spoken of the challenges he faces at Schalke although his appointment at the Gelsenkirchen club has yet to be confirmed.
"We all have something in common at Schalke: we want to be successful and will do everything to achieve this aim," he told Sport Bild published on Wednesday.
Neither Augsburg nor Schalke have confirmed the appointment of Weinzierl, 41, although the move has been widely reported in German media.
The Funke media group also quoted Schalke's new sports director Christian Heidel as saying there had been an agreement between all parties but a contract had not yet been signed.
Weinzierl will sign a three-year deal to succeed Andre Breitenreiter, it was reported.
Breitenreiter was released by Schalke after their final match of the Bundesliga season. He had taken over at the beginning of the campaign after leaving Paderborn but failed to secure Champions League qualification.
