Video review set for use at 2019 Asian Cup

Video review is set to help referees at next year's Asian Cup in the United Arab Emirates.

The Asian Football Confederation says it wants to use the technology "at some stage" in the 24-team tournament, which will be played from January 5 to February 1.

The AFC's executive committee wish is "pending final confirmation that all necessary preparation is in place."

The video assistant referees (VAR) system was tested in some European leagues and other competitions worldwide before FIFA used it at the World Cup in Russia.

Australia are the reigning Asian Cup champions after beating South Korea in the 2015 final.

The VAR will also be used in the Champions League from 2019 onwards, with the Europa League to follow a year later when the system is also planned to be implemented at Euro 2020.

VAR is also approved for next year's European Super Cup and planned for the 2021 Nations League finals.
