Victory to tough out 72-hour turnaround

Football Federation Australia is confident Melbourne Victory won't be impeded by a punishing international schedule should they progress through the A-League finals.

The reigning title-holders play Brisbane Roar on Friday night in an elimination final.

A win would send them to South Australia to take on fierce rivals Adelaide United the following Friday night.

The only problem is they have an Asian Champions League date with Chinese Super League side Shanghai SIPG sandwiched in between.

Kevin Muscat's side would have 72 hours between two pivotal matches in Shanghai and Adelaide for each competition.

A-League head Damien de Bohun said Saturday night wasn't considered for the Coopers Stadium match as the league has a long-running policy of playing matches on a Friday and Sunday.

He said he believed it would not reduce Victory's chances of playing to their potential.

"We've got a really clear policy, a medically and scientifically tested policy, of having three days break between matches," he said.

"We're very serious about player welfare. It's one of the most important aspects of any competition.

"From our perspective it's sufficient for them to get out there and give it their best shot."

De Bohun was hailing a most exciting finish to the season, where four teams were in the running for a premiership coming into the final weekend.

"Every (finals) team has a bona fide chance to win it," he said.
