Victory to sign Spanish defender Alan Baro

Melbourne Victory are ramping up efforts to plug holes in their squad with experienced Spanish defender Alan Baro reportedly set to join the A-League club.

Baro will arrive in Melbourne on Friday after 167 appearances with Spanish Segunda Division side Ponferradina where he was captain, SBS reports.

Baro's recruitment comes with the club off-loading nine senior players in the biggest squad overhaul in coach Kevin Muscat's tenure.

The club have lost defenders Thomas Deng, Dylan Murnane, Giancarlo Gallifuoco and best-and-fairest winner Matthieu Delpierre since their elimination final loss in April.

Baro will reportedly sign a one-year deal after completing a medical on Friday.
