Don’t give up your day job Stevie Jacobs!

The Today weatherman was given a once in a lifetime footballing lesson from Tim Cahill as the pair attempted to recreate the Melbourne City star’s famous goal in the derby last weekend.

The unlikely duo squared up on the Melbourne City FC training pitch as Cahill first recounted, then recreated his volley from half way which has since gone viral around the world.

“As the ball has dropped, I’ve come to meet it on the up … and I’ve kicked straight through it,” Cahill explained before continuing to demonstrate off the cuff.

“So it’s ...” he calmly instructed as the ball soared into the back of the net. “Want to try yourself?”

What followed was a montage worthy of the highlights reel as Jacobs comically tried countless times to hit the mark.

But even without a goalkeeper guarding the net, there was never any danger of the ball crossing the line.

“You know what?” Jacobs said panting. “If you actually do score, one of the most exciting parts of it is actually celebrating.

“Maybe you can show me that part?”

The former Millwall, Everton and New York Red Bulls star then revealed the steps behind perhaps Australia’s most iconic sporting celebrations.

“I think I’ve pulled a hammy Karl - thanks for that,” Jacobs jested to the show’s host who could be heard cackling in the background.

Tim Cahill’s strike was the opening goal in the derby as Melbourne City FC enjoyed the spoils of a 4-1 shellacking over Melbourne Victory.
