Tim Cahill refuses to clarify A-League future

Tim Cahill has refused to commit to Melbourne City or the A-League today, having spoken exclusively to 9News' Ayrton Woolley. 

Cahill returned to training with his club today with his ankle heavily strapped, and with game time ahead of the World Cup in 2018 behind his potential move, the Socceroos' greatest goalscorer wouldn't be drawn on how long he had left in Melbourne City blue. 

"I think for me it's just about football. It's always been about football. 

"It's unfortunate I've got you guys now. But the best thing for me is to stay focussed on training, stay focussed on football and stay true to what I'm good at." 

After the Socceroos' progressed to the World Cup with a victory over Honduras in Sydney, Cahill cast doubt on his future by saying he craved more time on the pitch, having mostly been used off the bench in Melbourne.

"For me now, I've got to make some big decisions on the level of where I'm playing at and what I'm going to do," Cahill said after Australia's triumph.

"I need game time. It's something that I'll make sure that either way for me I'm always going to play. If I don't, I'll find a way to play.

"I need to play and I need to stay fit. I feel great even though I've got an ankle injury and that's something I'll look at in the next few weeks.

"To get to a World Cup you need to be playing at the highest level."

But he backed away from those comments, telling Woolley he was interpreting things 'too literally.'

"I don't really think it's just about game time. Just game time. I think you're taking that a bit too literally.

"We'll see what happens today."

But Cahill admitted that his participation in the weekend's A-League fixture would depend on whether he was cleared to play by the club. 

"I've got my new boots here so I'm ready to rock and roll. 

"The main thing is just focussing on the game this weekend and being fit and available. Hopefully I can train today. I've been assessed all weekend."
