The 2019 Asian Cup has its first coaching casualty just two days into the tournament with Milovan Rajevac sacked by Thailand.

The Thai FA moved swiftly to axe the Serbian following a 4-1 defeat to India in a Group A clash in Abu Dhabi on Sunday.

Rajevac, appointed in April 2017, had come into the tournament under pressure following a poor ASEAN Football Federation Championship defence in December.

"The result is not what is expected of the Thai national team and that our supporters deserve," Thai FA president Somyot Poompanmoung said in a statement.

"As the President of the Football Association, I cannot stand still with this problem."

Rajevac has previously coached Qatar and Algeria and took Ghana to the quarter-finals of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Former assistant coach Sirisak Yodyardthai will take over the team for Thailand's clash with Bahrain in Dubai on Thursday.
