Sven exits Philippines, are Roar next?

Ex-England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson's stint in charge of the Philippines is over and now a move to the A-League is seemingly on the Swede's radar.

The veteran led the Azkals in their first Asian Cup in the UAE, where they finished bottom of Group C with three defeats from three matches.

"Coach Sven's engagement ends in this tournament," Philippines team manager Dan Palami told the Philippine Daily Inquirer, adding football director Scott Cooper would take over the reins of the national team.

With his tenure of the national team coming to an end, Eriksson has reportedly applied for the vacant coach's position at Brisbane Roar.

Eriksson was the first foreigner to coach England's national team, leading them to the 2002 and 2006 World Cups and the 2004 European Championships.

The 70-year-old is believed to be one of several people to have applied for the Roar job, which has been vacant since ex-Socceroo John Aloisi's resignation just after Christmas.

Others linked to the role include former Roar player Karl Dodd, ex-England striker Robbie Fowler and Englishman Stephen Constantine, who led India in the Asian Cup.

The Roar released a statement on Saturday saying a panel led by chief executive David Pourre and chairman Rahim Soekasah will finalise the selection of the new coach.

"We are confident that we will appoint the right person to lead our Hyundai A-League team into the future," Pourre said.

No time frame has been put on the appointment process with Darren Davies to continue as the Roar's interim coach in the meantime.
