Talk about a wager to sink your teeth into.

A Norwegian punter has a claimed a mouthwatering earn after laying a bet that toothy Uraguayan Luis Suarez would bite someone at the World Cup.

Richard Helmersen placed 100 Norwegian Kroner, about $A22, on Suarez to turn Hannibal Lector at the juicy odds of 175/1. And, as we all know, that bet has come in, netting over $3600.

While Helmerson admits it was only supposed to be a fun wager, he was over the moon when Suarez took a chomp on Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini's shoulder during Uraguay's 1-0 over the Azzurri.

"It's really quite surreal. I sit the course to watching the game and when it happens it starts to tick the messages from buddies who knew I’d put money on it. It’s quite fun," he told New Zealand television network TV2, via Google Translate.

"I started the only (for a) laugh. I thought, is he really so stupid that he does it again?

"It was mostly for fun. But I knew that they were playing against Italy and England and it soon could be irritably (become irritable)."
