Stones listed in City ECL play-off squad

UEFA has listed Manchester City transfer target John Stones in the team's squad for the Champions League play-off round even before the defender has publicly completed an expected move from Everton.

UEFA's website shows Stones with the squad number 24 on a list of players eligible to face Steaua Bucharest in a first-leg match in Romania next Tuesday. The return match is August 24 in Manchester.

Man City's off-season pursuit of 22-year-old Stones has not been sealed as Everton seeks a reported fee of STG50 million ($A85.25 million).

UEFA required play-off round clubs to submit a list of eligible players by 2200 GMT on Monday.

However, Champions League rules let one more newly signed player be added to the list by 2200 GMT on the day before the first-leg match.

City has yet to comment.
