Matildas star Steph Catley is off the mark for Arsenal, scoring an outrageous bending free kick in this morning's (AEDT) 5-1 win over Danish club HB Koge in the Champions League.

The star left fullback or winger debuted for the Gunners in September last year, but it took a special effort for the noted free kick taker to finally chalk up her first goal for the club, curling the ball from just outside the 18 yard box into the top right hand corner.

The precision of the strike was recognised by her club, which posted a video tweet of the goal that drew amazed reaction, particularly from fans back in Australia.

After Catley scored the opener, the floodgates opened for the Gunners, with the north London powerhouse romping to a 5-1 victory, which also included a goal from a second Aussie, Matildas forward Caitlin Foord.

The emphatic victory leaves Arsenal sitting second in Group C with six points from three games. They trail the unbeaten Barcelona but both clubs look likely to seal progression to the knockout stages.

Meanwhile, in the FA Women's Super League, the Gunners have started the season in emphatic style and lead the ladder unbeaten with 18 points from six games.

Matildas captain Sam Kerr's Chelsea sit three points back in second.
