Starstruck rival asks Messi for selfie

Lionel Messi's 100th appearance for Argentina has been capped by an unusual request for a selfie from a starstruck rival.

Jamaican striker DeShorn Brown approached the superstar moments after his side's 1-0 loss in the Copa America, South America's international championship.Jamaica are competing on invitation and Brown appeared to ram-home their status as the tournament's minnows by producing a mobile phone for the photo.Messi, who has previously prompted rivals to bow to him on the pitch, was happy to oblige."Messi is the best in the world, a star, and that's a photo I'll have as a souvenir all my life," Brown said later, according to Sky Sports.

The build-up to the match in Vina del Mar had been dominated by Messi, who took to the field wearing boots emblazoned with "100" as he brought up a century of caps.

After a one-sided opening it looked as if the South American giants were ready to lay on a goal feast to mark their captain's milestone.

But Jamaica, whose players are drawn mostly from America's Major League Soccer and the lower leagues of English football, proved surprisingly resilient, with goalkeeper Dwayne Miller producing some fine saves.

Gonzalo Higuain fired the only goal as Argentina eventually spluttered to an unconvincing 1-0 win.
