Spurs go third, Cardiff near relegation
Lucas Moura has scored a hat-trick as Tottenham Hotspur moved back into third place in the English Premier League thanks to a 4-0 home win over relegated bottom side Huddersfield.
Victor Wanyama got the other on Saturday to put Spurs one point above Chelsea, boosting their hopes of securing a European Champions League spot.
Manchester United beat West Ham 2-1 to go fifth, two points off the top four.
Cardiff are still five points adrift of safety with five games to go after they lost 2-0 at Burnley, who are now 11 points above the bottom three.
Brighton are still not safe after they were hammered 5-0 at home by Bournemouth in a humiliating day for Socceroos goalkeeper Mat Ryan, but Southampton moved further away from trouble with a 3-1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Spurs were without the injured Harry Kane and Dele Alli while manager Mauricio Pochettino left Toby Alderweireld, Danny Rose and Son Heung-min on the bench.
But it made little difference as Moura's treble put them back above Chelsea into third.
Wanyama rounded goalkeeper Ben Hamer to put Spurs in front on 24 minutes before Moura hammered in the second three minutes later.
The Brazilian got his second three minutes from time and completed his hat-trick in injury time to become the first man to score three in their new stadium.
"I'm so happy today because I did very well, good passes, good finishes and if we play like this as a team we can win a lot of things," Moura said.
"It was a good combination from everyone, good possession, I need good movements to receive a good ball and that's why I need to be in a good position and today I think I did that very well."
Moura said the result was good for Spurs' confidence as they take a 1-0 lead to the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday for their Champions League quarter-final, second leg match against Manchester City.
"Now we have a good battle in Manchester, we need from now to recover for this game and prepare very well," he said.
"It will be so hard there but if we play like we did today we can go there and get a good results and we can qualify."
Cardiff have it all to do, still, after they lost 2-0 at Burnley with Chris Wood scoring both goals.
Cardiff manager Neil Warnock was distraught at the result and livid with referee Mike Dean, who at 1-0 gave Cardiff a penalty and then took it away.
"Can I say I'm lost for words," Warnock said.
"It's baffling really. I'm so gutted for my players."
Warnock's side remain third-bottom, five points behind Ryan's Brighton, who were humbled 5-0 at home by Bournemouth.
Dan Gosling, Ryan Fraser, David Brooks, Callum Wilson and Junior Stanislas scored the goals for Bournemouth, with three of the goals coming after Anthony Knockaert was sent off in the 68th minute.
Brighton and Cardiff will meet in an increasingly crucial clash on Tuesday.
Paul Pogba scored two penalties as United edged out West Ham 2-1 to go fifth, netting in the 19th and 80th minutes.
Nathan Redmond scored twice and Shane Long got the vital third as Southampton pulled eight points clear of the relegation zone with a 3-1 win over Wolves.
Fulham, already relegated to the Championship, won for the first time under caretaker manager Scott Parker, beating Everton 2-0 thanks to Tom Cairney and Ryan Babel.
