Spanish dominate football money list

Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona continue to top the football rich list but Paris St Germain are now among the elite.

The results were revealed in the Football Money League 2014, an annual report produced by accountancy firm Deloitte.

Revenues for the top 20 clubs grew eight per cent to 5.4 billion euros ($A8.33 billion) in 2012/13.

Real Madrid and Barcelona retain positions one and two with total incomes of E518.9 million ($A800 million) and E482.6 million ($A744 million) respectively.

Both are aided by the ability to negotiate individual television deals in contrast to clubs in Germany and Italy who must bargain collectively.

Bayern Munich, boosted by their unique treble winning summer, moved into third place with total revenue of E431.2 million ($A664.8 million).

Manchester United slipped to fourth, out of the top three for the first time since the rankings were made in 1996/97, but a new multi-billion television deal for the English Premiership should lift them soon.

The big movers near the top of the list are Paris St Germain, backed heavily by Qatari investment, who went from 10th to fifth position.

Commercial income alone hit E254.7 million ($A392.6 million) - the highest individual revenue stream of any club - in a total revenue of E398.8 million ($A614.86 million).

PSG, aided by superstars such as Zlatan Ibrahimovic, won their first French title in 19 years last season but many in Europe will watch carefully to see if they violate UEFA's financial fair play rules.

The football governing body have forbidden clubs from making massive sponsorship deals with companies linked to their owners in a bid to circumvent the rules.

Juventus are the highest ranked Italian club in the top 20 with E272.4 million ($A420 million) putting them ninth.

The other country represented is Turkey, which has Galatasaray and Fenerbahce in spots 16 and 18 respectively.
