Slow security guards can't catch pitch iinvader

When it comes to patrolling sports grounds, the main task for a security guard is to keep the fans at bay - and off the ground.

Should supporters encroach, it's a given the guards can detain them.

But not it seems in Bahrain, as shown at a recent international match between the home nation and Colombia.

With Colombia leading 6-0 and the game in stoppage time, four jubilant South Americans ran onto the field at Bahrain National Stadium.

Two managed to sidle up to Colombian and Arsenal goalkeeper, David Ospina, and embrace their hero, while a third simply hit the turf for a bit of a canter.

Had this occurred in Australia, or most parts of the world, it wouldn't be long before the pitch invaders would be rounded up and escorted off the ground.

But like a turtle chasing a hare, the Bahraini security guards proved sadly out of their depth as the fans jogged around the field before bounding back into the crowd without so much as a finger laid on them.

So slow were the hapless groundsmen that they could barely break into a jog, with one of the pitch invaders even finding time to stop and engage with someone in the crowd.

Fortunately, they managed to grab one man, but only because he tripped over and fell into a security officer.

We'd hate to think how they'd go guarding the Crown jewels.
