Serbian club fined for racist banner

Partizan Belgrade says it has been fined 40,000 euros ($A60,000) by UEFA for a racist banner in the stands during an Europe League match in September.

Additionally, the Serbian club will have to close a section with around 1200 seats in their next Europa League match, against Besiktas Istanbul.

European football's organising body had launched disciplinary proceedings against Partizan following their September 18 match against Tottenham Hotspur because of an anti-Semitic banner in the stands and other violations.

In a statement posted on the Partizan website, club president Dragan Djuric warned fans that a new incident could prompt UEFA to order Partizan to play home matches without spectators.

Partizan is presently last in the Europa League Group C with a single point from two matches.
