Schuerrle criticsed by Wolfsburg coach

Germany winger Andre Schuerrle became the latest target of criticism from Wolfsburg coach Diter Hecking who on Sunday said he was not living up to the expectations.

"We have certain expectations which are higher than what he has shown so far," Hecking told Sport1.

Hecking said that Schuerrle "was not satisfied himself," suggested the player was questioning his abilities too much, and said "we can not protect himself from the criticism" because "it is partly justified, and he knows that as well."

The 2014 World Cup winner Schuerrle joined Wolfsburg in January for more than 30 million euros ($A47.80 million) but has so far not managed to become a regular starter. He was below par again in Saturday's 1-1 home draw against bottom club Hanover.

Hecking's criticism came a week after he had lashed out at striker Bas Dost.
