Russia fined for racist chants in friendly
World Cup hosts Russia have been fined 30,000 Swiss francs ($A40,000) by governing body FIFA following discriminatory chants from fans during the friendly against France in Saint Petersburg on March 27.
During the match, which France won 3-1, it is alleged Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba and Barcelona's Ousmane Dembele were subjected to monkey chants.
FIFA had said a probe would take in a report from the FARE (Football Against Racism in Europe) observer who was present at the game at the Krestovsky Stadium as part of evaluating "all information available".
On Tuesday, FIFA confirmed there would be a hefty financial sanction imposed on the Russian Football Union.
The governing body also highlighted "a three-step procedure" that will be in place at the forthcoming showpiece tournament, which kicks off with Russia against Saudi Arabia in Moscow on June 14, to allow the referee to "actively intervene" against any discriminatory behaviour.
