Rodriguez receives WC14 top scorer award

Real Madrid's new playmaker James Rodriguez has been presented with the FIFA Golden Boot award, for having been top scorer at the World Cup.

Rodriguez scored six goals while helping Colombia to reach the quarter-finals for the first time. His stunning strike in the round of 16 against Uruguay was voted best goal of the tournament.

Rodriguez then joined Real from Monaco, for a reported fee of 80 million euros ($A120 million) in one of European football's leading summer transfers.

"Six goals at the World Cup, it was a dream come true. I hope to do it again soon," he said when given the award on Friday at Real's training ground on the outskirts of Madrid.

"I think I am at the ideal club now. Every player in the team is an excellent person. This is a united group and we hope to win trophies this season. I am happy here."
