Roar goalkeeper Young fails to reduce ban

Suspended Brisbane goalkeeper Jamie Young will be unable to rejoin the resurgent A-League battlers for their A-League trip to leaders Perth.

The club's bid to have Young's two-match ban - imposed after he collided with Adelaide striker Craig Goodwin earlier this month - failed at a Football Federation Australia independent disciplinary and ethics committee hearing on Wednesday.

Young, who was sent off following the incident with Goodwin on February 2, hoped to have the suspension reduced but the committee upheld the match review panel's sanction.

"The committee determined the player must serve a suspension of two matches for committing the offence of "serious foul play (when challenging for the ball)," a statement said.

Young missed Brisbane's stirring 2-1 upset over Sydney FC last weekend and will be free to return after the Roar's assignment in Perth, although he retains the right to make another appeal within seven days.
