Reporter stumbles across Liverpool legend

A surprised BBC reporter unwittingly found Liverpool legend Tommy Lawrence when interviewing the public ahead of the match against Everton on Saturday.

Stuart Flinders hit the streets of Liverpool asking people if they could remember anything about the 1967 FA Cup Merseyside derby when he stopped an elderly man.

Oblivious to who he was talking to, Flinders quickly jumped into his spiel.

"I was just wondering if you remember the derby match in 1967, at Goodison, FA Cup fifth round and it was shown on a big screen at Anfield," Flinders says in footage for the BBC.

"That's right," the 74-year-old Lawrence replies.

Surprised, Flinders asks: "Do you remember it?"

"Yeah I do I played in it," Lawrence responds. "I was goalkeeper for Liverpool."

Taken aback, Flinders is forced to ask the former League and FA Cup winner who he is before letting Lawrence reminisce about the match.

"It was a great game," Lawrence recalls with affection. "Alan Ball scored the winner."
