An FA Cup tie has ended in the most dramatic fashion possible after a referee’s decision cost a team a stunning last-minute winner.

During the FA Cup game between Whitehawk and Stourbridge, a miraculous last-minute winner was denied by the man with the whistle.

Referee Robert Whitton claims he had called time just as Whitehawks’ sub Javier Favarel struck the stunning volley which sent the entire team into exultant but ultimately premature celebrations.

As you can imagine, the scenes got a bit tense immediately after Whitton made the contentious decision.

Favarel raced over to the ref to protest his case while others yelped and screamed for mercy.

But the party was crashed and the goal was cancelled meaning the game ended 1-1, earning Stourbridge a replay.

Whitehawk boss Richard Hill spoke objectively with the BBC following the match.

"I've just said to the referee 'why don't you just wait two seconds?' But time is up so he has to blow the whistle."

And in case you’re wondering, officiator Whitton made it home safely after the game without a security escort.
