Kane adds another record to the books in pursuit for Ballon d’Or
Harry Kane has wasted no time adding another record to his name in the Bundesliga, while Brentford defeated their big-spending west London rivals Chelsea in a stellar morning of football on Saturday morning (AEST).
Xabi Alonso’s men were left to accept their third straight Premier League result without a win as Brentford soared to a 3-0 win in front of a roaring home crowd.

Jaidon Anthony pounced in the 61st minute when he nodded in from close range after Jannik Schuster headed a corner back across the goal, extending Chelsea’s long run of league games without a clean sheet to 21.
Igor Thiago then made it 2-0 in the 83rd minute when Emiliano Martinez saved a shot from Kevin Schade on a breakaway, but the ball dropped in front of the Brazilian who made no mistake.
Substitute Fabio Carvalho wrapped up the win when he turned in a cross by Schade in added time.
Brentford’s win pushed the Bees, who are unbeaten so far in the league, up to third in the table ahead of the remaining fixtures. Chelsea sit in seventh place.
And while it is the first time since 1988 that Brentford have defeated Chelsea at home, Mark Bosnich is still confident that the Blues are title contenders.
“I think Chelsea in the end of the season, will be one of the biggest challenges for Arsenal,” he told Today.
“Arsenal are the favourites to win ... but (Alonso) does like to play three at the back and there’s only ever been one team in history that have won with having a dominate three at the back.”
In Germany, a record-breaking milestone from Kane and a sensational hat-trick by Michael Olise propelled Bayern Munich to the top of the Bundesliga with a 7-0 thrashing of Union Berlin.
Kane became the fastest player to score 100 Bundesliga goals, reaching the mark in his 98th top-flight appearance to eclipse the previous record of 129 matches set by Dieter Mueller in the 1970s.
The English superstar also holds the record for the fastest player to score 50 goals in the competition, surpassing Erling Haaland’s previous record. Kane additionally claimed the record for most goals (36) scored in his debut season in 2023-24.

Jamal Musiala set the rout in motion after 18 minutes from an Alphonso Davies set-up before Olise took centre stage. The French winger was brought down by Tom Rothe in the 39th minute, allowing Kane to coolly convert from the spot and get his historic 100th league goal.
Olise got on the scoresheet himself four minutes later, finishing off a pass from Musiala. In the 54th minute, he set up Kane to smash his second goal of the game.
Substitute Ismael Saibari added a fifth in the 70th minute before Olise completed his memorable treble with two quickfire strikes in the 73rd and 76th minutes.
The win puts Bayern top of the table on 10 points, one ahead of SC Freiburg, who travel to Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday.
