Tottenham Hotspur show support for Destiny Udogie after alleged gun threat

Tottenham released a statement of support for Destiny Udogie, after the defender was allegedly threatened with a gun by a football agent.

Reports this week claimed an unnamed Premier League player had been allegedly threatened with a firearm on September 6.

Two days later a 31-year-old man was charged on suspicion of possession of firearms with intent, blackmail and driving without a licence.

Another man is also alleged to have been blackmailed and threatened by the same individual during the incident in question.

"Officers spoke to the victim and during the course of their investigation it was also reported another man in his 20s had also allegedly been blackmailed and threatened by the same individual," the police statement said.

"No injuries were reported in either incident.

"A 31-year-old man was arrested on Monday, 8 September on suspicion of possession of firearms with intent, blackmail and driving without a licence. He has been bailed while enquiries continue."

In a statement on Tuesday, Spurs said: "We have been providing support for Destiny and his family since the incident and will continue to do so. Given this is a legal matter, we cannot comment any further."

The 22-year-old joined Spurs from Udinese on a five-year $30 million deal in 2022, before being loaned back to the Italian club.

He returned to Tottenham for the start of the 2023-24 campaign and was a strong performer for Ange Postecoglou, making 76 appearances for the club.
