'I think he's probably willing to do that': Legend's roadmap for Ange Postecoglou's Premier League return

Theo Walcott believes Tottenham Hotspur made a mistake by sacking Ange Postecoglou but thinks the polarising Australian manager will rise again in the Premier League.

Arsenal great Walcott spoke to Wide World of Sports while in Sydney for the first leg of his Stan Sport Premier League trophy tour.

Walcott delighted in tormenting his north London rivals as a pacy winger but was baffled when Postecoglou was shown the door after winning the Europa League last year.

His replacement, Thomas Frank, was fired in February and interim manager Igor Tudor has become the first Tottenham boss to lose his first four games in charge.

The embarrassing 5-2 midweek loss to Atletico Madrid meant Spurs have lost six games in a row for the first time in their history.

"He (Postecoglou) won a trophy at Tottenham - the first time in many, many years they've won anything (since the 2008 League Cup)," Walcott said.

"For me, I just felt that was the moment to then really back someone even more so, to really develop his squad.

"It took time to manage the squad they already had and he brought a few new players in. I liked how open and honest he was. That was quite refreshing. He laid everything out, says how he sees it.

"I like that passion he shows, I really do. I think he will be in the Premier League at some point again. If you want to enjoy football, go and watch a Ange Postecoglou game.

"There'll be plenty of goals, plenty of madness. That kind of works."

By his own admission, Postecoglou made a mistake by taking the Nottingham Forest job last year.

He lasted just 39 days and failed to win any of his eight matches before ruthless owner Evangelos Marinakis sent him packing.

Postecoglou has recently re-emerged in the media world and offered a "no comment" this week when asked if he would "return to an ex" - in the form of Spurs.

"I think he would learn from his mistakes," ex-England star Walcott argued.

"I think it's important not to be too naïve at times. But he won something at Tottenham, that was the ultimate goal, and he did great at Celtic as well. He could well be back there, we'll see.

"I really like him. It's a hard job, the Forest one, with the owner and everything going on there. I think he gets another chance at a big club. He has to build that, start somewhere else to then get back into the Prem. I think he's probably willing to do that.

"It'd be nice to see him back in the Prem. From the the media side of things he's great."
