Podolski at Inter Milan ahead of loan

Lukas Podolski completed a medical check and visited Inter Milan's training ground Saturday after the Serie A club reportedly agreed final details on signing the Germany striker on loan from Arsenal for the rest of the season.

Podolski left a clinic at Rozzano near Milan after the examination and met Inter coach Roberto Mancini at the Centro Sportivo Angelo Moratti.

The club website posted photos of Podolski posing with Mancini at the training ground.

"The World Cup winner was at the Centro Sportivo Angelo Moratti today to get to know his new training ground and meet the Nerazzurri coach," an accompanying text said.

The 29-year-old striker had arrived in Milan late Friday to be greeted by hundreds of Inter fans and was photographed wearing the club scarf.

The two clubs have yet to confirm the loan deal, but Podolski posted a farewell message to Arsenal supporters via Instagram.

"I can't express in words my gratitude towards Arsenal fans for all they have done for me in my years in London!" he wrote.

"Hopefully we shall meet again!"

Podolski started only two matches for Arsenal this season and made 12 appearances in all in the current term, scoring three goals.

He missed Thursday's 2-0 defeat at Southampton with what Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger described as a "tight groin."

According to Britain's Telegraph newspaper, an initial loan to Inter could be followed by the option of a STG5 million ($A9m) permanent transfer at the end of the season.

Germany's most capped player Lothar Matthaeus, who played for Inter between 1988 and 1992, meanwhile said Podolski should now focus on his game.

"Lukas has qualities, but he has to show them again on the pitch," he told Sky Sport News.

Matthaeus said Podolski "twitters more than he play" and "he should concentrate more on football."
