Pinto cagey on future after Honduras loss

As fiery as he was over dronegate, Jorge Luis Pinto cut a shattered figure after Honduras were knocked out of Russia 2018 calculations.

But the journeyman coach was still quick to castigate media enquiring about his future after Wednesday night's 3-1 loss in Sydney.

The future of Pinto, who took Costa Rica to the quarter-finals in South Africa in 2010, is up in the air after he failed to take Honduras to a third consecutive World Cup.

"Some journalists are more concerned about my future rather than the result of the match," Pinto said at ANZ Stadium.

"They're overlooking the match. It's such a crucial game for Honduras."

Pinto admitted Australia had dominated the deep-lying Hondurans, just as they had in San Pedro Sula in the first leg's scoreless draw.

Speedy winger Alberth Elis in particular drew a lot of attention from the Socceroos on return from suspension.

"They tried to neutralise Elis from the very start with a lot of fouls," he said.

"An aggressive team overall. A good team.

"I didn't attempt to be so defensive ... Australia were very strong and aggressive and their pressure got to us.

"We tried to create chances but we were not able to."
