No Bachelorette for A-League Mariners

Denied by the love of his life last month, The Bachelorette runner-up Michael Turnbull has again been rather harshly rejected.

Central Coast Mariners coach Tony Walmsley laughed off reports the A-League club is considering signing the 34-year-old former goalkeeper as a replacement for the banished Liam Reddy.

The Mariners are in the market for a back-up gloveman with Reddy, having run foul of the coaching staff after criticising the team's tactical approach, set to be released from his contract.

Turnbull was last seen on a football field leading the celebrations following Melbourne Victory's A-League title success earlier this year - despite spending the entirety of his brief stint as an injury replacement player at the club on the bench.

Walmsley said the only time Turnbull's name had been mentioned at the Mariners was by the wives of assistant coach John Hutchinson and strength and conditioning coach Brice Johnson.

"I can end the speculation," said Walmsley, barely able to keep his composure when the question was put to him by reporters in Gosford on Friday.

"I think Hutchy's and Bricey's wives watch The Bachelorette and they're all for it.

"But nobody's convinced me yet that he's somebody that the Mariners are going to be looking at anytime soon."

It likely spells the end of Turnbull's footballing career, which he famously embellished on The Bachelorette by claiming he was a former Socceroo and played at the Olympic Games.

Rather, Turnbull played for the Young Socceroos, not the full national team, and while selected in the Olyroos squad for Sydney 2000, he didn't play a single minute.

Turnbull caused another stir among soccer fans on Thursday by tweeting he was about to meet up with a "good man" at the Western Sydney Wanderers, fuelling suggestions he was attempting a professional comeback.

But he wasn't discussing a potential A-League deal - Turnbull was merely in Parramatta to shoot a Fox Sports segment with Wanderers defender Scott Jamieson.
