Socceroos young gun Volpato contests $722 cocaine fine
Socceroos star Cristian Volpato has pleaded not guilty after being charged for driving with cocaine in his system in July.
Volpato was pulled over after being caught speeding more than 50km/h across Sydney’s Anzac Bridge in July, where he returned a positive test result.

The 22-year-old’s secondary sample also returned a positive result for cocaine, but the young gun has repeatedly denied taking illicit drugs.
Volpato is facing a fine worth $722 and had his international driver’s licence suspended as a result of the incident.
His lawyer, Paul McGirr, said that his client elected to challenge the infringement notice in the NSW Local Court.
“Our client has never touched cocaine and strenuously denies consuming it ever,” McGirr previously told the Herald.
The star midfielder returned to his Italian club side, Sassuolo, revealed days after the incident that Volpato had returned negative results to urine and blood tests.
Volpato has scored three goals in five matches this season, but won’t feature in Australia’s upcoming friendlies against Brazil due to a hamstring injury.
