Sam Kerr has thrown ice on reports she is set to leave Chelsea and return to America.

On Thursday night, The Sydney Morning Herald reported the superstar Matildas forward would depart the powerhouse English club at season's end and move to the NWSL.

Despite previous reports linking her with the Boston Legacy, Kerr had reportedly signed with expansion club the Denver Summit, who only played their first match a number of weeks ago.

The club is co-owned by NFL legend Peyton Manning and skiing great Mikaela Shiffrin.

But on Friday morning (AEDT), Kerr – answering a fan question on Snapchat asking about the rumours – declared a deal was far from done.

"Don't believe everything you read in the media man, they know a decision before me," she said on the social media app.

Kerr had been heavily linked to a move Stateside after she was offered only a "disrespectful" 12-month extension on her current deal.

In subsequent posts, Kerr posted a video of herself doing filming at Stamford Bridge - Chelsea's home ground - but said it was "unrelated to football".

Kerr has already played in the American league in stints with the Western New York Flash and Chicago Red Stars. She remains the league's all-time leading goal scorer.

Kerr's wife, Kristie Mewis, is from the US, and her family live in Boston. The couple have a child together.

Leaving Chelsea would be a major move for Kerr. In six seasons in the Women's Super League, the 32-year-old has scored 61 goals in 90 games, leading Chelsea to five WSL titles and three FA Cups.

But since returning from an ACL injury, Kerr has had a reduced role.

Neither club have confirmed Kerr's move at this stage.
