Munich keeper goes from hero to zero

Forty minutes is a long time in football, certainly enough to go from hero to zero, as Munich keeper Manuel Neuer proved during Bayern's Champions League loss to Arsenal.

Neuer was at his brilliant best in the first half when he pulled off a miraculous reflex stop to save a goal-bound header from Gunners striker Theo Walcott.

The save came in the 36th minute when Walcott looked destined to score after latching onto a cross on the edge of the six yard box, which he headed low to the left of the shot-stopper.

Neuer reacted brilliantly to dive full stretch and somehow parry the ball away and keep the scores locked at 0-all.

But the 29-year-old was left shaking his head in shame in the 77th minute when he gifted Arsenal a goal after being hopelessly caught out after charging off his line to claim a free kick.

Finding himself in no man's land, the man regarded as the world's best keeper got nowhere the ball as Gunners star Alexis Sanchez and a Munich defender jumped ahead of him.

He was then left posted as Olivier Giroud cleaned up the scraps to score a simple goal.

The blunder proved pivotal with Arsenal gaining the ascendancy before going on to claim a 2-0 victory, which kept alive their ECL hopes.
