Socceroos star Aaron Mooy set to miss Asian Cup: report

Graham Arnold could be denied a key plank of his Asian Cup hopes, with English Premier League-based midfielder Aaron Mooy reportedly set to miss the tournament.

Mooy, 28, sustained a knee injury in the 75th minute in Huddersfield Town's 1-0 loss to Arsenal, according to a News Corp report.

Scans revealed a medial ligament injury and a month-long recovery time-frame that would preclude his selection in the tournament beginning January 6.

The same report also casts doubt over fellow midfielder Tom Rogic's participation who came off in the second half of Celtic's 5-1 win against Kilmarnock.

Rogic's Celtic teammate Daniel Arzani has already been ruled out with an ACL injury suffered on his club debut last month.

During his side's 5-0 victory over Dundee, the 19-year-old came on early in the second half and troubled the defence from the get-go, almost setting up a goal for his teammate Kieran Tierney in the 61st minute with a perfect pass to the far post.

But he went down off the ball with a knee injury in the 77th minute and was stretchered off the pitch as he waved to fans. 

Arzani shared an update on his injury on social media after scans confirmed the worst.

"Thank you to everyone who has taken the time out of their day to show support and love, I’m trying my best to reply to everyone but please understand this is also a very tough time for me as I received the bad news today that I will indeed need an ACL Op [sic] ruling me out until next season," he said.

"Apologies to the Celtic fans for my 20 minute cameo. This is however the beginning of my journey and I promise to be back better than ever. Day 1 road to recovery starts now."
