Messi breaks fan's heart in high-five mix-up

A young fan was left heartbroken after football superstar Lionel Messi failed to respond to his high-five request before the Argentina-Bosnia World Cup clash.

The mix-up occurred while the youngster, who was part of the ensemble of children who escort the players onto the field, was waiting in the tunnel at Rio de Janeiro's Maracana as Messi and his teammates emerged from their dressing room.

As this video shows, the excited boy raises his hand to high-five his idol, but much to his disappointment, the Argentinean maestro fails to notice and walks straight past him to shake hands with the linesmen and referee, robbing him of a magic memory.

While there was no suggestion Messi deliberately snubbed the boy, we can all sense his disappointment.

On the bright side at least the youngster got to witness first hand a piece of Messi magic, with the marksman scoring a sublime goal in Argentina's 2-1 victory.
