Lot could decide World Cup hosts

Future World Cup hosts could be decided by lot in order to rule out corruption, the managing director of German top club Borussia Dortmund, Hans-Joachim Watzke, has suggested.

Watzke told Monday's edition of Kicker sports magazine that lots could be drawn between candidates who have been approved by a special committee of the ruling body FIFA and Europe's UEFA, made up of experts from the areas of security and marketing.

"This committee decides whether an application is accepted. And lots will be drawn among those who have been accepted," Watzke said.

"Such proceedings would guarantee maximum security against corruption."

FIFA has been rocked by corruption allegations around several World Cup awardings which were in the past made in a vote by the FIFA executive committee.

The rules have now been changed and the next host for 2026 is to be elected by the FIFA congress, in 2017.
