Former German national team captain Philipp Lahm admits he can imagine extending his playing days with Bayern Munich past 2018, when his contract with the German record champions expires.

"I still cannot rule out that in 2018 I will say: I feel good and fit. I want to play another year. That is well possible," the 31-year-old Lahm said in an interview with the German website goal.com on Wednesday.

In January, Lahm said he expects to retire in 2018.

The Bayern captain, who is out injured, believes his fitness will play a major role in a possible extension of his career, especially because the club almost always is playing in three competitions.

"To consistently play at a high level under those conditions at that age will not be easy," Lahm said.

The defender said he is not interested in a coaching position with Bayern when he finishes his career.

Lahm called coach Pep Guardiola a perfectionist who "thinks about football, the team and the next opponent day and night".

"I don't want to have that," Lahm said.
