A Spanish goalkeeper has been cleared to play already despite not being able to remember the nasty fall where he landed on his head during a La Liga clash over the weekend.

Footage of the draw between Villarreal and Espanyol shows ‘keeper Sergio Asenjo come out to claim a cross when he tumbles over one of his defenders.

He lands in a horrible position on the side of his head with his neck caught at a horrible angle.

Asenjo said he had no recollection of the incident despite not being unconscious at any point.

“The doctors asked me about it and later, I was a bit shocked when I saw the TV images of it. I just thought I’d taken a blow to the head and not twisted my neck,” he said.

“At no point did I lose consciousness, I just felt a bit dizzy back in the changing room”.

“I was left a bit groggy by the fall but I felt ok to play.”

“I can understand that it must have been a huge shock for them, the TV images are quite frightening.”
