Juve rally at Brescia to go top of Serie A

Juventus have defeated Brescia 2-1 to clinch a second straight comeback victory over a Serie A underdog and jump to the top of the standings.

Alfredo Donnarumma gave Brescia a shock early lead on Tuesday at Stadio Mario Rigamonti before a Jhon Chancellor own goal five minutes before the break levelled matters and Miralem Pjanic scored what proved to be the winner in the 63rd minute.

Eight-time defending champion Juventus are on 13 points, one ahead of Inter who can reclaim the lead when they welcome Lazio on Wednesday.

Juve, who came from behind to edge Verona 2-1 in the previous round, had Cristiano Ronaldo out out as a precaution because of a minor thigh issue, while the promoted hosts deployed new signing Mario Balotelli up front after he served a four-game ban from his last season at Marseille.

Brescia's other striker Donnarumma tallied his fourth goal of the campaign with a drive that found the net largely thanks to Wojciech Szczesny's fumbling on four minutes.

Juve's reaction produced missed chances from Adrien Rabiot, Gonzalo Higuain, Aaron Ramsey and a Sami Khedira near miss before Brazil defender Danilo joined the long list of Bianconeri who suffered muscular injuries in recent weeks and was replaced by Juan Cuadrado.

A fast Balotelli free-kick met Szczesny's hands on the half-hour and 10 minutes later Juve levelled as Chancellor turned a corner kick into his own goal.

The decisive moment arrived when home keeper Jesse Joronen was beaten by Pjanic's shot after Paulo Dybala's free-kick rebounded off the wall.

"Unfortunately we conceded an early goal but after that we played well and pressed hard," Pjanic said.

"I think we deserved the win because we had good possession throughout the game."

Brescia are 11th on six points from five games.

In the evening's other game, Verona and visitors Udinese played out a scoreless draw as both ended a losing run.

Verona had the better of the chances and went close to breaking the deadlock late on but Udinese goalkeeper Juan Musso palmed Mariusz Stepinski's header onto the underside of the crossbar and it bounced off the post on its way out.

The hosts moved on to five points while Udinese ended a three-match losing streak to be a point further back.
