Howler brings Neuer back to earth
The world's greatest goalkeeper proved he his human after all after producing an absolute howler to gift victory to a German rival.
Bayern Munich's Manuel Neuer finished third in last year's Ballon d'Or in a season where he won the World Cup with Germany.
But in footage captured from the Bundesliga match against Borussia Monchengladbach, the 28-year-old showed even the very best have their off days.
Faced with a regulation save from Brazilian striker Raffael late in the first half, Neuer makes a meal of his attempt to pick up the ball, letting it squirm past him and across the line.
The German international then makes a despairing dive to claw the ball back into the field of the play, but slow motion replays show it had well passed the line before Neuer got a hand to it.
The reigning German champions went on to lose the game 2-1, ending a 10-match unbeaten streak in all competitions.
