Horror studs-to-groin tackle in African final

A Ghanaian footballer has endured one of the worst days of his career after a horrendous groin hit punctuated a painful loss in the African Cup of Nations final.

Muburak Wakaso was challenging for a ball against Ivory Coast's Serey Die when a reckless kick from Die left Wakaso writhing in agony on the ground.Replays of the incident showed Die clear the ball, but his foot follow through and collect Wakaso, studs-first, in the crotch.Die was booked over the incident, but still had the last laugh as his Elephants went on to win on penalties (9-8) after a scoreless draw.

The result was a repeat of the only other Ivorian title in 1992 when the Elephants again edged the Ghanaians, also on penalties after a goalless draw.
