Ground puddle foils goalscorer

Nothing destroys a football match as a spectacle more than a sodden pitch.

Just ask Portuguese powerhouse FC Porto.

Playing a recent game against derby rivals Boavista in the Portuguese league, Porto were victims of a waterlogged field when they were denied what should have been a certain scoring chance by, you guessed it, a puddle.

In a match delayed 45 minutes because of severe flooding, opportunities were few and far between.

But in the 15th minute Porto striker Yacime Brahim found himself unmarked in the Boavista penalty box and awaiting a cross from midfielder Cristain Tello following a clinical chain of passing.

However, just as the measured pass looked destined to find its mark, Brahimi was left ruing a missed opportunity when the ball stopped in a puddle right on the penalty spot.

It proved a costly moment with fourth placed Porto having to share the points with 16th placed Boavista in a 0-0 draw.
