Goalkeeper in German second division makes unforgivable error

A goalkeeper in the German second division made life difficult for himself when he decided to have a drink at the wrong time.

Duisburg’s Dutch goalkeeper Mark Flekken was off with the fairies when he switched off and took a sip from his drink bottle behind the goal line.

Flekken wasn’t even watching the game when he was dealt an embarrassing blow early in the first half, when a teammate .headed the ball back to the ‘keeper, thinking he was totally invested in the game.

The defender was shocked to see Flekken behind the line with his back to the ball totally unaware about the clear and present danger facing his team.

By the time the gloveman realised what was happening it was too late.

Even though Duisberg won the match 2-1, Flekken said his teammates won’t let him forget that moment for quite some time.

“I heard the goal jingle and thought we were leading 2-0,” Flekken said.

“Of course the lads love such moments. I’m going to have to take a lot of flak from my teammates over the next weeks.

"I’ll take the drinking bottle home and burn it somewhere in the garden.”
