Goalkeeper uses his head to avoid own goal

Now that's using your head.

Millwall goalkeeper Jordan Archer has been forced to improvise and use his head to save his team from an embarrassing own goal in England's League One.

The former Tottenham Hotspur shot-stopper had to be at his sharpest when Lions teammate Mark Beevers put him in a spot of bother with a horribly overhit back-pass in the match against Peterborough.

Stumbling backwards as the ball looked to be sneaking in under the crossbar, Archer had to quickly improvise, pulling off a remarkable save by leaping up and heading the ball away from danger.

The incredibly, but unusual, recovery helped Archer keep a clean sheet and lead Millwall to a 3-0 victory.

Archer joked after the game that his mind went blank as the ball zeroed in on his goal.

"I'm not going to repeat what went through my head when I first saw the back pass!" Archer told Sky Sports' Goals.

"I was initially thinking about chesting it then I realised it wasn’t dropping, so I had to just back-track and get anything on it, and thankfully I got it over the crossbar.

"Everyone was a bit shocked and it was a bit comical as well.

"It was all fun and games really."
