Former Perth Glory captain Michael Thwaite has been released by the A-League club to take up a contract in the Chinese Super League.

Central defender Thwaite becomes the fourth player to leave the Glory in this transfer window as the rebuilding continues following last year's salary cap scandal.

The former Socceroo will join Liaoning Whowin FC in China.

Thwaite, 32, was an ever-present for the Glory in the 2014-15 season but joins Antony Golec, Sidnei Sciola and Guyon Fernandez in the exit lounge at Perth.

Glory chief executive Peter Filopoulos lauded Thwaite for his displays for the club, after he arrived from Gold Coast United in 2012.

"Michael's had some ambitions to explore opportunities overseas which we've known about for a while and we're not standing in his way," Filopoulos said.

"We wish him the best of luck going forward."

Filopoulos has also assured Glory supporters new recruits are expected to be unveiled before the transfer window closes early next month.
